26 Shevat
I cooked too much bread today, out of habit. There will be enough stew in the pot for tomorrow, at least it will do for two. I am so used to there being four of us. With Yoshi’s help, we managed to deal with the animals in good time. He misses Shmuli, so he makes himself busy. He said little Miriam keeps feeling her presents trying to guess what’s inside. She always enjoys this when she gets gifts at Feast times. My two can’t wait to open parcels, but Miriam is so patient, she just loves to savour the moment. Yoshi told us the sick chicken was doing well and she even layed an egg this morning. He got his mum to cook it for his little sister as a treat. The bird will be fit enough to go out in the yard with the others when Shmuli gets back. I spent time at the loom this afternoon, and as we are supper Shmuel asked me if Aunt Tirzah had said anything at the well this morning. All the men are puzzled and surprised at her appearance in synagogue yesterday. She had not said anything much, just that she thought prying where you had no business to would always lead to trouble. That struck me as strange, because she loved to gossip, but it doesn’t really explain why she went to service.
It just seems that everything is changing at the moment, strange things are happening almost every day.
