25 Shevat
So quiet! No children’s chatter to destroy the peace. I don’t like it it’s not natural! I suppose it won’t be for long. Yoshi came over to see to the chickens. He said that little Miriam opened her parcel and it had three little parcels inside. She opened one which contained five almond pieces. Mum had told her only wedding guests usually get these. His sister wanted to save the rest to open when Rivkah came home. He said Mum had asked if we could have a little party for Miriam when the others came home. Of course! Perhaps we could make it a bit like the wedding somehow.
Who is that sitting in the front row next to Uncle Shaul? It couldn’t be, it looked like Aunt Tirzah, but she never goes to synagogue! It’s not long since she complained bitterly when Rabbi Moshe made everyone come along one week. She even made poor Uncle Shaul, tell the rabbi not to do it again. what on earth is she doing here?
We had seen them briefly at the wedding. As the only maternal aunt of the groom, they made a great fuss of her, but what could have happened at the wedding to bring this on?
I know what you’re thinking. No one else knows about the wine. Only the servants and Shmuel and me. The more we talk it through, though, the more miraculous it seems. But what rabbi has ever been able to turn water into wine just by saying a blessing? Rabbi Moshe would love to add that too his repertoire! But there is absolutely no way he could have got it from anywhere nearby. Because he told Shmuel not to tell anyone, I can’t even ask Rabbi Moshe. I ”ll have to wait till I see Miriam next week.
