29th Cheshavan
Last night Shmuli came home from the Rabbi’s house with something very special. It was an old letter, tearstained and obviously much read. I marvelled at the old man trusting the lad with something so precious. Shmuel read it to us. It seemed that his old mentor had prophesied years ago that the promised Anointed one had been born and was alive in our time. He would be about Shmuel’s age, too. We have been hearing stories about a man immersing people in the Jordan river and calling for repentance. Could this be him? I need to think this through, but it’s not the stuff of idle chatter. I dare not even share with my beloved Shmuel, not yet anyway.
Everyone in KfarGanot is affected today. At synagogue Rabbi Moshe told everyone about the letter he had treasured over the years. It brought back memories and fears. Some of us remembered the terrible things done by the Romans back then, would it happen again? Whatever hopes we have we need to be so careful
